Akashi Seijuro

Posted: February 21, 2014 in Generation of Miracles

Seijūrō Akashi (赤司 征十郎 Akashi Seijūrō) is the captain of Generation of Miracles. He is the only person that the Generation of Miracles knuckles under. He is now the point guard and captain of Rakuzan High and is competing in the Winter Cup. Akashi now serves as the main antagonist in the story.

Appearance

Akashi232

Akashi is rather small-sized for being the captain of theGeneration of Miracles, as noted by Furihata, being only 173 cm tall, making him the shortest out of the Generation of Miracles. He has spiky red hair, large eyes with vertical pupils and an oval face. His hair was worn with longer bangs in Junior High school and during the events before the Winter Cup. However he cut them at the beginning of the Winter Cup with Shintarō Midorima‘s scissors. Color pages have shown that Akashi has heterochromatic eyes, with his right eye being red and his left being yellow/orange. It was shown in a recent chapter that back in Junior High school, Akashi’s eyes were both red. They changed in Junior High school when the initial conflict between the Generation of Miracles occurs. It can be noted that after his eyes have changed, his personality also becomes much colder. He wears the white and light blue Rakuzan jersey with the number 4.

Akashi’s appearance was not revealed for a long time. The times he appeared or was mentioned, only the lower part of his face was seen, or the back of his head. His full appearance was only revealed at the Winter Cup.

Personality

Intimidating Akashi anime
Akashi

Akashi has a strange and extremely intimidating personality. He is able to control the Generation of Miracles and is so far, the only person whom all the members of the Generation of Miracles knuckles under. He has a certain respect for all of his teammates, former and present, and has utter faith in their abilities. He possesses a strong winners-mentality, viewing that winners get everything in life and losers are denied all. However, in contrast to his philosophy, Akashi takes victory for granted as he thought that, for him, winning was merely given and thus, lost the feeling of victory. Akashi also views his power and skill as absolute and grows violent when anybody opposes what he says, shown when he tried to stab Kagami with the scissors he borrowed from Midorima when Kagami disobeyed him. However this is corrected by Kagami, who revealed that he could sense Akashi already knew he could evade it.[1]

While being the Generation’s supreme commander, unlike the other members, Akashi addresses them informally, calling them by their first names.[2] This is notable because most of the character’s always address each other with their last or family names, with very few exceptions. Akashi also disallows anyone that opposes him to look and speak down to him, stating that only those who serve him are the ones that can look him in the eye, i.e. the Generation of Miracles and his Rakuzan team, while others who oppose him cannot and should know their place. Akashi also stated that his orders are absolute and and he will force them to submit.

Akashi seems to often take things to the extreme, as he said that if Rakuzan lost the match against Shūtoku, then it would be his fault and that he would quit the team and gouge out his eyes in repentance.[3] The reactions from all of his teammates and Midorima implied that they knew Akashi would actually do it, something that Takao noticed.

Despite his figure being somewhat related to as the manga’s biggest villain, Akashi was shown in the Kuroko no Basket: Kiseki no Game to be absolutely caring and considerate towards his former teammates. He constantly reminds them of doing things the right way, even in the way they eat and take care of their digestive system. It was much near the point of nagging that Aomine even called him “mother”. In the manga it is also shown that he often has complete faith in his teammates, saying during the Shūtoku match that he did not believe that any of them would lose.[4]

It is later revealed that the initial change in personality occurs when Akashi was confronted with his first potential loss in a one-on-one against Murasakibara. When Akashi fully realized that he was going to lose, he suddenly snaps, saying that he will always win and will eliminate anyone who stands in his way, even if it were to be his parents, intimidating Murasakibara. After practice, where both Kise and Midorima muse on how Akashi seemed to become an entirely different person, Akashi finds Kuroko still training and tells him to give up on Aomine. A scared and worried Kuroko asks him who he was, but Akashi merely smiles manically and replies that he was obviously Seijūrō Akashi, also addressing Kuroko by his first name, Tetsuya, for the very first time.

Murasakibara Atsushi

Atsushi Murasakibara (紫原 敦 Murasakibara Atsushi) was the Generation of Miracles‘ center. He now plays forYōsen High and competed in the Winter Cup.

Appearance

Combed Hair Atsushi

Murasakibara is abnormally tall for someone of his age, even taller than Papa Mbaye Siki. He is the tallest player seen in the entire series. He has shoulder length, purple hair that touches his back. During the match against Seirin High School, he is seen with his hair pulled back into a ponytail during the fourth quarter. He has been seen wearing a white “Tonicwater” t-shirt and a working-overall.

Personality

According to his height, Murasakibara acts very lumpish. He fools around at serious times, which is not always well received. He is mildly sadistic and childish. The only reason he plays basketball, is because he’s good at it, he doesn’t care for the sport at all. He has always told others that he dislikes, feels bored and even hates players who play basketball with passion, even when they are losing. However, it is hinted that he actually likes basketball from the bottom of his heart due to his activation of Zone.[1] He is sort of a sweet tooth as he is seen eating sugar-related foods all the time, except when he is in a game. It is also mentioned that Murasakibara also spends every single penny he has on these kinds of junk food.

Murasakibara’s real self as an offensive player

According to Kuroko, Murasakibara isn’t the calm type, he was actually the opposite within the Generation of Miracles. He used to be very active in the attacking lineup during his junior high school days at Teikō, even setting a record of scoring 100 points in a single game when he was enraged. However, since basketball bored him, half way in junior high school he stopped attacking and has limited himself to defensive plays only. His actual specialty is offense. During the match against Seirin, Murasakibara was startled when Seirin managed to cut Yōsen’s lead from 18 points to just only 5. Murasakibara claims that there is no point for the weak to struggle any further and then switches to offense momentarily after being enraged.[2]

History

When he was young, Murasakibara was invited by kids in the streets to play mini-basketball.[3] Murasakibara is seen at the tryouts for the Teikō basketball club. His name is called as one of the four freshmen who made it into the first string of the club, a feat never seen before.[4]

Murasakibara and Kuroko dispute

At the beginning Murasakibara did not get along well with Midorima, but after Kuroko’s proposed 3 on 3 match the dispute was settled. Due to their large difference in basketball life, Kuroko and Murasakibara would often find themselves arguing over hard work versus talent. Murasakibara claiming that hard work is worthless if you don’t have talent and that there is no merit in even trying, while Kuroko does acknowledge Murasakibara’s point, he disagrees with the fact that hard work doesn’t pay off. Kuroko who loves basketball and experienced loss and hardship could never agree with someone like Murasakibara who does not love basketball, receives nothing but victory.[5] Despite their differences, Kuroko and Murasakibara did get along when it came to other things, and would usually go get ice cream together along with Aomine,Kise, Midorima and Momoi.

Sometime during his time in Teikō, Murasakibara had a match against Shōei Junior High, where he played against Teppei Kiyoshi and won.[6]

When the Generation of Miracles talent began to bloom, Murasakibara became arrogant and refused to come to practices because he felt they were unnecessary. He challenged Akashi and claimed that he would not follow anyone weaker than himself. Akashi accepted the challenge and awakened his emperor eye winning the 1 on 1 match. Despite winning, Akashi allowed Murasakibara to skip practices as long as he scores baskets during matches.[7]

After the graduation, Murasakibara met with the other members of the Generation of Miracles and made an oath to battle against the rest to see who is the strongest.[8] After the graduation, everyone went their separate ways, meaning that they went into different high schools and basketball teams hoping to win in events.

Midorima Shintarou

Posted: February 21, 2014 in Generation of Miracles

Shintarō Midorima (緑間 真太郎 Midorima Shintarō) was the vice-captain and shooter of the Generation of Miracles. He now plays with one of the Three Kings of TokyoShūtoku High.

Appearance

Shintaro Midorima anime

Midorima has short, dark green hair that doesn’t reach his eyes. His hair is parted to the left. He is quite big and tall, being the second-tallest from the Generation of Miracles. He has light green eyes and he wears black-framed glasses that are framed on all sides except the top. He bandages his left hand outside of matches, so that nothing can influence his left-hand shot. He also files his nails for the same reason. Midorima is often seen with a lucky item, that varies from a stuffed frog to a bear to a potted cactus. Out of games, he wears his school uniform: a black jacket that is strapped all the way to his neck and black pants. He plays with jersey number 6 at Shūtoku.

Personality

Midorima lucky item
Midorima with his lucky item

Midorima is usually very reserved. He feels no need for fooling around, although Takao tries to persuade him many times (often ending up with him annoying Midorima). Acting kind to opponents is very hard for him, while his friend Takao has no problem with that. Very confident in his ability, he often acts high and mighty around others (mostly his team-mates). He strongly believes in zodiac-signs and horoscopes, even carrying a so-called “lucky item” with him everywhere.[1][2] He is set at ease when he hears that his zodiac sign, Cancer, will have a lucky day. Takao once commented on his preparation for matches, ranging from filling his nails, taping his fingers, and listening to his horoscope, to carrying his lucky item of the day, as some sort of obsession.

Midorima seems unable to stand Kuroko, because he acknowledges Kuroko even though he doesn’t have any physicial capabilities and can’t do anything on his own. He hates that Kuroko is not ambitious enough  and that he chose a new and relatively unknown team like Seirin. He thinks that Kuroko is stupid to choose a school who cannot use his strength.[3]

Despite usually being calm, he snapped during Shūtoku‘s match against Seirin High in the Winter Cup. He told Takao to stop fooling around and had the intent of destroying Seirin completely. Takao compared him to a dangerous wild beast.[4] During the same match, Midorima also let go of his pride and began playing with his team. He never relied on others in the past, but now puts winning up front and plays as a true team. In the successful teamplay, he was also seen enjoying the game and laughing, which he rarely does.[5]

Midorima and Kagami WC
Midorima gives Kagami a hint to beat Akashi

Takao often calls him a tsundere, because he tends to help people but denies doing so. Midorima has good insight and is able to understand other people’s abilities easily, like Kagami or Kuroko‘s. He sometimes gives them advice under the guise of scorn and criticism. He helped Kagami with his aerial understanding[6] and pushed Kuroko to play by himself, leading to the development of the Vanishing Drive. Further more, he shared his theory about Akashi’s dual unique ability with Kagami and Kuroko.[7]

As revealed in the flashback, when the GoM started to grow arrogant, Midorima was different from the rest. He never stopped practicing and still valued its importance. When the GoM would make a bet on getting the most points in a game, he would not participate because all he wanted to do is fulfilling his role. He went along with the situation as long as they were winning, although it annoyed him. The other fact that shows that he differs from other the GoMs is that so far, he is the only one who has had the guts to stand up against Akashi. His passionate hospitality towards Akashi during the Winter Cup semi-finals is an example of this.

Kise Ryouta

Posted: February 21, 2014 in Generation of Miracles

Ryōta Kise (黄瀬 涼太 Kise Ryōta) was one of theGeneration of Miracles who now plays at Kaijō High. He is known for his copying abilities, as he can copy any technique he sees, often with more power than the original.

Appearance

Kise uniform

Kise also works as a model, so, naturally he has a “pretty” face. He has yellow/blond, medium long hair. He has long eyelashes, a piercing in his left ear, and gold-colored eyes. Out of games, he is often seen in his school uniform, which consists of a white shirt, black tie, gray vest, and formal pants. During games, he wears the dark blue Kaijō jersey with the number 7.

Personality

Ryota Kise anime

Kise has a very carefree, outgoing, and a flamboyant personality. He tries to be friends with everybody, including those who seem gloomy and distant (for example Midorima). Kise exclusively adds -cchi to the people who he respects (mostly the former Generation of Miracles members) names, such as Kurokocchi (Kuroko),Midorimacchi (Midorima) or Aominecchi (Aomine), and has the habit of ending his sentence with the suffix -ssu. As carefree as he is off-court, he can be very determined and serious while playing. While playing against Aomine, he says that he just doesn’t care about Kaijō winning, and that he just wants to defeat Aomine himself. He says that he’s not mature enough to play basketball logically and that his instincts are too strong.[1] He is shown to be surprisingly perceptive, though it may be because his specialty is watching and copying people. It was revealed in the -Replace- novel that he could immediately tell that Momoi liked Kuroko, though she, at the time, was unsure of her own feelings.

Because Kuroko was Kise’s personal instructor in Junior High school when he first started playing basketball, and also because Kuroko is strong in his own unique way, Kise deeply respects Kuroko – almost to the point of obsession. He always tries to point out how amazing Kuroko is and thinks that they were the best of friends[2] (and he was comically upset when Kuroko said the opposite). He even claimed to have cried every night after Kuroko rejected his offer to play for Kaijō and once referred to this event as “Kurokocchi dumped me”. A slight running gag with Kise is that whenever Kasamatsu tries to talk about the Generation of Miracles, Kise always brings up Kuroko in to the conversation and ends up getting hit.

Daiki Aomine

Posted: February 21, 2014 in Generation of Miracles

Daiki Aomine (青峰 大輝 Aomine Daiki) was the ace player of the renowned Generation of Miracles and was the former partner/light of Kuroko in Teikō. He currently plays as the ace of Tōō Academy. He and Kagami are sworn rivals after their clashes in the Interhighpreliminaries and in the Winter Cup. He was the main antagonist until the first round of the Winter Cup.

Daiki Aomine anime

Appearance

Aomine’s noticably brown skin is darker than most of the other characters. He has navy blue hair that is quite short. His hair is parted on his left side. He often has a frown on his face, with his dark blue eyes slightly squinted. Aomine is very tall and muscular.

He wears the black and red Tōō High jersey with the number 5. His casual summer clothes consist of a loose, white tank top and tan cargo pants. In the winter, Aomine is often seen with a light woolen shirt, a black hoodie and a dark bodywarmer.[1]

Personality

Before he gained immeasurable strength, Aomine was out-going and even friendly. He often fooled around withKuroko and KiseMomoi stated that the old Aomine was very similar to Kagami; he loved playing basketball and was very good at it too. However, he kept training and getting stronger, to the point that he often completely crushed his opponents’ will to play basketball. He was initially sad about this, and searched for his equal on the court, but he never found one.[2] Eventually, he came to the conclusion that he is simply the strongest and that “The only one who can beat me, is me”. He also cast his feelings towards his opponents aside and now views them as weak and wants to crush them. He often seeks to humiliate them in the worst kind of fashion. He has also become very lazy, only coming to training when he wants to, and slacking off even during matches, sometimes abusing his teamates in the process.

Aomine also has a short temper and some kind of admiration towards Kuroko even after his “change”, as he threatened a Tōō player with physical violence when he badmouthed Kuroko. Also, when Haizaki stole food from Kuroko, Aomine told him, irritated, to get his own.[3] He is also a big fan of Japanese idols. He appears to be interested in that field of entertainment and knows about many idols. He has said he likes models with big boobs.[4]

Aomine is shown to be very protective of his former teammates in Teikō Junior High, something his current teammates in Tōō Academy refer to as Aomine’s “soft side”. This was first shown when Aomine attacked one of his teammates in Tōō after he badmouthed Kuroko‘s style of play. After Kise’s match against Shōgo Haizaki ended, Aomine confronted Haizaki in order to make sure he does not attack Kise later on or get in the way of Kise’s and Kuroko’s match at the Winter Cup.
